Location
: UZUMLU
Fifteen kilometres from Fethiye is the beautiful and relaxed
mountain village of Uzumlu. Just 500 metres above sea level,
and nestling below the ancient Roman site at Cadianda, Uzumlu
has managed to retain all the natural charm and character of
a traditional Turkiah village. The valley in which Uzumlu is
located is one spectacular natural beauty, surrounded by thick
pine forests, mountain streams and rugged hillsides.
This
is an ideal location for somebody who wants to combine the enchantment
of rural life with the nearby convenience of a modern town like
Fethiye just 20mins drive away.
Local Amenities
Uzumlu village itself has a post office, school, jandarma station
and a couple of small markets for your day to day needs. For
supermarket shopping you will need to go into Fethiye where
you have a choice of two - Migros on the outskirts of town and
Gima in the town centre.
Local
dolmus services run at regular intervals to and from Fethiye.
The dolmus station in Fethiye is located behind the white mosque
on the main street. Should you wish to take a taxi from Fethiye
to Uzumlu it should cost you no more than 30 million TL on the
meter (about £15). If there is no meter, be sure to agree
a price with the driver before getting into the vehicle, as
there are a few around who will try to take advantage of tourists.
As
Uzumlu is very small and traditional, there are no banking or
ATM facilities in the village itself. All these services can
be found along the main street in Fethiye.
In
Fethiye there are two private hospitals for doctors services
and emergencies – Letoon Hospital and Esnaf Hospital.
The nearer of the two is Esnaf Hospital, which is well sign
posted and is located just off the harbour front in the Tuzla
area of town. Standards in this hospital are extremely high
and the service is on par with European private hospitals.
The
local police station is located in Günlükbasi 10mins
drive away on the way to Fethiye.
